Who This Is For

Students who already enjoy math and want to be challenged, AMC isn't 'extra schoolwork', it's a genuinely harder kind of math. Best for students who score well in school math and want a real test of reasoning. AMC 12 specifically is for advanced high school students with strong precalculus already in hand; that's why we run it 1-on-1.

Course Content

AMC 8 (middle school): number theory, counting and probability, geometry, algebra basics, and the kind of clever-but-not-tricky problem-solving the contest favors. AMC 10: extends into more advanced algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory. AMC 12: covers the full AMC 10 syllabus plus precalculus topics, with deep problem-solving practice and consistent past-paper drilling. Every level uses real released AMC problems heavily.

How ToIvy Teaches This

Competition math is a different sport from school math. We don't make it harder by piling on speed, we make it harder by teaching students to see through problems, pick their angle, and stop when they have the answer. Past papers are non-negotiable; the patterns repeat year after year, and recognizing them is half the score.

Class Format & Structure

AMC 8 / AMC 10: 3.5 hours per week in small group classes (a 2-hour in-person session plus a 1.5-hour online session). AMC 12: 1-on-1 only, scheduled around the student's level. All levels include past-paper practice in the final 6 weeks.

Program Highlights

  • AMC 8 and AMC 10 offered as small group classes
  • AMC 12 through private tutoring only, the level requires it
  • All essential topics for AMC mathematics competitions
  • Problem-solving strategy and competition-specific techniques
  • Builds the kind of mathematical reasoning colleges and selective programs notice
  • Past-paper drilling under real time conditions
  • Useful even for students not yet competing, the skills transfer to SHSAT, SAT, and AP math

What Students Actually Learn

  • AMC-style number theory: divisibility, modular arithmetic, primes
  • Counting and probability with combinatorial reasoning
  • Geometry: clever angle chasing, area methods, similarity tricks
  • Algebra: clever substitution, symmetry, telescoping
  • Past-paper question recognition, knowing the type before reading the whole problem
  • Time triage on a 25-question test

Learning Objectives

  • Master all essential AMC competition mathematics topics
  • Develop problem-solving strategy and answer-by-elimination efficiency
  • Build strong mathematical reasoning and pattern recognition
  • Prepare for AMC 8, AMC 10, or AMC 12 with competition-day calmness
  • Use AMC results as a credential on competitive college applications

Questions Parents Ask Us

Does my child need to be 'gifted' to do AMC?

No, they need to be willing to sit with hard problems. We've taught regular strong students all the way to honor roll on AMC 8.

Will AMC actually help with college admissions?

Real scores on AMC 10/12 (especially AMC 12 → AIME → USAMO track) are a recognized credential at top STEM programs. They're not magic, but they're real.
