G-Level Math & English Foundations
Grade-level math and English instruction aligned with state standards, focused on closing skill gaps and building academic confidence.
Who This Is For
Students in Grades 2 to 7 in three common situations: (1) the child is keeping up at school but parents want them ahead by next year; (2) the child is sliding, grades fine on paper but homework feels like a fight; (3) the child has visible gaps the school hasn't addressed (multiplication tables not solid, can't write a paragraph, struggles with word problems). The course works for all three because it diagnoses where the child actually is in week one, then teaches forward from there.
Course Content
Each weekly session is split into a math block and an English block. Math follows the grade-level NY State curriculum, number sense, place value, fractions, decimals, ratios, geometry, and word problems, but is tightened with extra problem-solving structure and step-by-step solution writing. English combines reading comprehension (with full passages, not isolated sentences), vocabulary in context, grammar fundamentals, and short paragraph writing. Topics rotate by week so students see every standard at least twice per term, with a checkpoint every fourth week.
How ToIvy Teaches This
We don't reteach the school's lesson, we fix what's underneath it. Most struggle at this age comes from one of three holes: weak number sense, weak vocabulary, or weak reading-for-meaning. We diagnose which hole is the real one for your child in the first two sessions, then build forward. Every concept is taught once, practiced live with the teacher watching, then revisited a week later to lock it in.
Class Format & Structure
Weekly 3-hour sessions: 90 minutes of math (instruction + worked examples + independent practice with teacher circulating) and 90 minutes of English (reading passage discussion → vocabulary → short writing), with a short break in between.

Questions Parents Ask Us
My child gets A's at school but I don't think they really understand. Is this for them?
Yes, and you're not the first parent to notice. NY public schools are generous with grades; we'll show you within two sessions where the actual gaps are.
Will the work overlap with what they do at school?
Same standards, deeper treatment. Your child will see school topics again here, but with more practice, more explanation of why, and a teacher who's watching them work.
How do I know if my child should also be in SHSAT or SSAT prep?
We'll tell you. By the end of the first term, the teacher gives you a clear recommendation for what comes next, including whether your child is ready for test-prep tracks.
