Who This Is For

Middle school and early high school students who aren't yet ready for full SAT-level instruction, students whose school math hasn't caught up to SAT requirements yet, and any student where parents want to start SAT-direction work in 7th–9th grade without throwing them into the deep end. The diagnostic in week one will tell you whether your child should be here or already in full SAT.

Course Content

Math half of the course rebuilds algebra (linear equations, systems, exponents, quadratics) and geometry (lines, triangles, circles, coordinate geometry) at SAT depth, but at a slower pace than SAT class, with more example problems and more teacher-watched practice. English half focuses on reading comprehension across literary and informational passages, the grammar rules SAT tests verbatim, and short written reasoning. Students leave this course able to handle a full SAT-prep class without drowning in unfamiliar content.

How ToIvy Teaches This

Most students who do badly in SAT prep aren't bad at SAT, they're missing prerequisite knowledge. This course is the prerequisite. We slow the pacing down, work through fundamentals with full explanations, and only declare a student 'ready for SAT' when their diagnostic shows they actually are.

Class Format & Structure

Weekly 3-hour sessions: 90 minutes of math + 90 minutes of ELA, with a short break in between. Two short mock sections per term for tracking, plus a brief written report after each.

Program Highlights

  • Complete instruction in essential algebraic and geometry knowledge tested by SAT
  • Intensive training in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar
  • Designed as both a test-preparation bridge and academic skill-building course
  • Closes the foundational gaps that derail students in full SAT prep
  • Smaller classes than SAT, more individual feedback per student
  • Smooth handoff into ToIvy SAT prep when the student is ready

What Students Actually Learn

  • Linear equations and systems, set up, solve, and verify
  • Quadratics: factoring, formula, vertex form
  • Geometry: angle relationships, triangles, circles, coordinate plane
  • Reading: main idea, evidence, function, vocabulary in context
  • Grammar: SAT's most-tested rules and the patterns of right answers
  • Word-problem translation: turning English into algebra

Learning Objectives

  • Build the core academic skills needed before a full SAT curriculum
  • Master essential algebra and geometry concepts
  • Strengthen reading comprehension and active vocabulary
  • Develop grammar accuracy and disciplined problem-solving habits
  • Reduce total SAT prep hours needed later by removing weak foundations now

Questions Parents Ask Us

How will I know when my child is ready to move into SAT prep?

When the diagnostic shows they can handle real SAT-level material, typically after one full term of Pre-SAT, sometimes two. We tell you, you don't have to guess.

Is this the same content as PSAT prep?

Overlapping but different. PSAT prep is sharper on the PSAT exam itself; Pre-SAT Foundation is broader and slower, focused on building the underlying skill.
