Who This Is For

Middle and early high school students preparing for the PSAT, or any student in Grades 6–9 whose reading and writing test scores aren't keeping up with their math. Also a strong choice for students aiming at SAT later who want to start the work early without committing to full SAT pacing yet.

Course Content

Each session works through a real PSAT-style passage start to finish: vocabulary in context, main idea, structure, evidence-based questions, and the grammar/editing items that test specific rules (subject-verb, parallel structure, transitions, modifier placement, punctuation). Students do timed sets, then walk back through every wrong answer with the teacher to understand the rule that broke it.

How ToIvy Teaches This

PSAT English isn't a vocabulary test, it's a logic test on text. We teach students to attack each passage with a small, repeatable set of moves: read for purpose, scan for evidence, eliminate wrong answers using the text, not their gut. Grammar items are taught as rules, once the rule is known, the right answer is mechanical.

Class Format & Structure

Weekly 90-minute sessions. Each class: 1 timed reading/writing module → full review with the teacher → one short written reasoning piece. Mock PSAT every 6–8 weeks for tracking.

Questions Parents Ask Us

Is PSAT prep really necessary or should we just go straight to SAT?

PSAT prep is the lowest-pressure way to build SAT-style reading habits. For students under 9th grade, this is usually the better starting point.

Will this also help with school English class?

Yes, the grammar and analytical reading skills transfer directly to school ELA, and many students see school grades rise within a term.
